Jeffrey D. McDonald, M.D., Ph.D

I moved my neurosurgical practice to Coeur d'Alene in 1998. Previously I was the chief clinical neuro-oncology surgeon at the University of Utah for 5 years, where I was instrumental in in the development of a very active, functional brain-mapping research program. I also specialized in pituitary surgery at Utah and was active in laboratory cancer research on brain tumors, as well as surgery on the spine. My neurosurgery residency training at the University of California, San Francisco, followed medical school and graduate school at the University of Chicago, where my laboratory pursuits included molecular biology, gene cloning and DNA sequencing. I am board certified in neurological surgery.

I am the middle of three children born to working-class parents in a small town on the shores of Lake Michigan in the late 1950's. I was the first in my family to ever get the opportunity to go to a four-year college. I will forever be grateful to my parents for the sacrifices they made to send me to the university. I am now thankful for the opportunities this has allowed me, in turn, to help patients and families in their times of need through direction of spine and neurosurgical care.

I am joined in North Idaho by the three greatest joys of my life, my wife and my two young children.

My family and I enjoy tremendously the friendly people, beautiful geography and outdoor lifestyle of North Idaho.
