Dr. McDonald was named one of the "Best Doctors in America" by his medical peers in a 2001 survey conducted by Best Doctors, a company serving hundreds of insurers, employers and health plans worldwide. He was also listed as one of the Best Doctors in the Inland Northwest by Spokane & Coeur d'Alene Living magazine, 2003.

In an independent national rating based on Medicare patient outcome and satisfaction, five stars were awarded to Northwest Specialty Hospital in 2006, for back and neck spinal fusion surgeries performed primarily by Jeffrey D. McDonald, M.D., Ph.D.

Dr. McDonald and a colleague were the neurosurgical team at KMC ranked as one of the nation's top 20 for spine surgery, fusion category, from 1999 to 2002 in Money magazine's Fall 2003 Health Care Special Report.
